长篇章回巨著《三国演义》中的蒋琬与史籍中的同名人物相去甚远。史籍中的蒋琬忠厚谦恭,并有治国、治军之不俗政绩;而小说中的蒋琬虽是诸葛亮选定的接班人,但表现平平。究其缘由,当由作品的题材取向与作家的情感取向所决定。因小说以历史上三国时期的军事、外交为主要描写内容,而活跃于当时政治舞台上的军事家、谋略家诸葛亮,又是作家人格理想之所在,故而诸葛亮去世之后,小说虽赋予蒋琬以治世之才、赋予姜维以治军之才,但皆逊色于诸葛;同时,作品又依循主题的需要,让身为文官的蒋琬又远不及武将身份的姜维。

Jiang Wan that the long chapter goes back in monumental work ＂Romance of the Three Kingdoms＂ and personage of the same name in the historical book greatly differ from each other. Jiang Wan in the historical book is honest and tolerant and modest and courteous,there are original achievements of running a country, directing troops;and although Jiang Wan in the novel is the successor who Zhuge Liang selected,it is mediocre to behave. Studying carefully its reason,it decides by subject matter orientation and the writer＇ s emotion orientation of the works to work as. The novel regards military, diplomacy in the period of Three Kindoms in history as the main description content, and Zhuge Liang, the active military strategist, strategy on the political platform at that time of family,it is the ideal of writer＇ s personality. So after Zhuge Liang pass away, novel although give Wan Jiang with times of peace and prosperity just,give ginger link with direct troops just, but all inferior to Zhuge. Meanwhile, the works in accordance with following the need of the theme, make Jiang Wan taken as the civil official not also far as Jiang Wei of military officer＇ s identity.
