Donald Barthelme is one of the most strikingly innovative and arguable postmodern writers. His fictions are characterized by fragmentary text, center-dissolving, anti-style and anti-plot, which render his fictions a title-absurdity. However, only by employing these absurd techniques, does he reveal to the reader an authentic reality in the postmodern time.
