ZrO2 was coated on Alumina by the impregnation with solution of ZrO(NO3)2,followed by drying and calcination.In this way,ZrO2 dispersed onto the surface of alumina to form a monolayer,with 10% of ZrO2 and then 4% K2O was incorporated.This catalyst had high activity and selectivity to form methanol,ethanol and iso-butanol.CO conversion increased with the increase of ZrO2 content,but the iso-butanol yield decreased. This result suggested that the iso-butanol formation might relate to the pore structure of ZrO2/A12O3 catalyst.When ZrO2 content was higher than 10%, ZrO2 accumulated and blocked up those poers of the catalyst,which benefit to iso-butanol formation.The coated catalysts were further modified by soaking ZrO2/Al2O3 with Pd,Mn and Co salts solutions.The results indicated that 2% Pd/ZrO2/Al2O3 had higher selectivity to alcohol (57.6%) and STY of methanol (91.7ml/l(cat)) and iso-butanol (4.1ml/h/l(cat)),while 3% Co/ZrO2/Al2O3 catalyst had lower selectivity to alcohol (28.7%), but the highest yield of iso-butanol (9.2%), 6% Mn/ZrO2/Al2O3 catalyst had higher selectivity to alcohol (52.7%) giving mainly methanol (89.9%) and iso-butanol (3.1%), but the STY of iso-butanol was very low (0.8ml/h/l(cat)).All the reactions were preformed under the following conditions:P=10MPa,T=400℃,GHSV=5000h-1,H2/CO=2:1.
