Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is significantly associated with Hodgkin's lymphomas (HL) This association is influenced by age,sex,nation/ethnicity, geography and socioeconomic conditions. EBV is detected in 20%-80% tumor cell of classic HL, in particular, in Western countries. The virus has two distinct life styles: latency, during which a limited number of genes are expressed, and the lytic cycle, when the majority of viral genes are expressed and virions are produced. The production of EBV gene expression during the latency plays an important role in the pathogenesis of HL. The status of EBV is linked with outcome and therapeutical response of HL.
