This paper takes the cinema of 1990s as its object of study and tries to analyze the identity narrative characteristic of the “new generation” directors. The so-called identity narrative refers to the cultural marginalization of identity and the anxiety of the directors expressed in their films, including the identification of the marginalized identities of both the narratee and the narrator. These “new generation” directors have consciously or unconsciously written their awareness of identity into their works.
