Thrift is a concept with extensive and profound meaning in Marxs economics. According to Marx, saving time equals to developing productive capacity and hence shortens the necessary time, resulting in an increase of free time. Based on this concept, Marx relates thrift to the overall and free development of humans in the future, to the harmonious development of man and nature, and to the integrated development of the whole society as well. Therefore, the study of the idea of thrift in Marx＇s economics from the perspective of associating thrift with development can be of significance in guiding us to realize the scientific concept of development and quicken our steps in constructing a thrifty and harmonious society.
