张恨水的一百多部小说基本上都延续传统文化中的才子佳人模式。通过与古典小说、鸳鸯蝴蝶派、新文学等文学样式综合比较可发现,经他改良的才子佳人模式,实际上是历史文化背景下妥协而成的中庸模式,但这样的妥协却赢得不俗的市场和读者。现以他的作品《满江红》为案例,从中追溯历史的遗传密码,探索其小说成功的原因。
