摘要
厄普代克以霍桑的经典名著《红字》中的海斯特.白兰为原型塑造了《S.》中的女主人公萨拉,他赋以女主人公主动的话语权,将人物的生活背景现代化,使作品的意味更为独特。本文通过探讨两部作品中两位女主人公不同的反叛形式,考察了《S.》中戏拟的意义以及两部作品不同的时代文化意蕴。
The prototype of the heroine Sarah, Updike created in the novel S. , was Hester Prynne in the Howthorne's classic work The Scarlet Letter. In the novel, Updike let the heroine take initiative in talks and modernized the characters' life background to make the novel distinctive. Through the comparison between the rebellious modes of two heroines in these two novels, the article gave a review of the fabricated meaning in the novel S. and the cultural details in different times between two works.
