How to exert the educational function of history is the problem that draws the common attention of leaders, history instructors and researchers in recent years. This paper puts forward＂talking about the past and today＂ as one important teaching principle, trying to demonstrate and illuminate such problems as the significance, necessity and feasibility of ＂talking about the past and today＂ in history teaching. This is of aspiring significance to the establishment of teaching outlines and to fostering the students with the ability of identifying things with an eye of history materialism.
