摘要
本文考察了英语和汉语的相关资料,认为英语的id iom这个词,其合适的汉译是熟语。然而,汉语中有两类英语中所没有的特殊熟语———成语、歇后语。它具有英语熟语所没有的特性。本文对此进行了探讨。
After examining relevant data from English and Chinese, we claim that the most appropriate Chinese translation of the English term idiom is shuyu. However, Chinese has two special kinds of idioms - chengyu and xiehouyu, which have their own unique features that English idioms don＇t have. This paper discusses the causes of this phenomenon.
