Tokieda Motoki,Japanese linguist, divided the Japanese words roughly into two general categories, shi(詞)and ji(辞)according to whether a conceptual process is involved. This reflects his view of language as a process, and his treatment of classification on the basis of the philosophical theory of intentionality.Shi and ji correspond to the intentional object and intentional action in the structure of intentionality respectively. It is in fact the same basis on which he defines the denotations of shi and ji.The issue of whether shi and ji is continuous is a disguised issue of the boundaries between the intension and denotation of shi and ji.
