AbstractAs part of an international initiative for the IDNDR, the United Nations Scientific and Technical Committee invited the World Federation of Engineering Organisations and the Union des Associations TechniquesInternationales to focus to focus on five study areas .The Megacities Project is one of these study areas and is being carried out by the Institution of Civil Engineers of the UK,with support from the Overseas Developmentadministration. The project aims to identify measures to reduce the vulnerability of urban areas in developing countries, particularly megacities, to the effects of natural hazards .It covers essential elements of risk reduction such as increasing awareness, skilled engineering of buildings, structures and infrastructures andthe contributions .from administrators , planners, social scientists, health care providers, construction engineers and other professionals.
