Abstract More than two million tonnes of sewage and industrial wastewater are prodrced in Hong Kong each day. Only 50%of them receive primary or secondary treatment.The amming half enters the sea, sea to the shore,without anytreatment thus gives rise to pollution problems.The Hong Kong government has been making efforts to cope with theseproblems.The paper has reviewed the industrial wastewater pollution which are generally attrobited to the rapid economicand population growth,the developments in environmental policy and wastewater treatment technology. It holds thatwith the cooperation of government and industry there is a good possibility that the Hong Kong industry will be able to remain competitive and at the same time achieve environmental compliance.
