贺智利的《黄土地的儿子》一书中平均使用力量,对路遥进行多方面的阐释,使得路遥的形象变得扁平,这就在相当程度上损害了路遥的形象。这本专著中存在的问题具有一定的普遍性,例如宗教和语言。中西文化对宗教有不同的理解,但是一些中国学者竭力要从中国文化中找到西方意义上的宗教因素,这往往弄巧成拙,贺智利就是一个,他的著作在这方面出现了明显的矛盾。就方言来说,贺智利和路遥在这个方面都犯了错误,他们都把很多关中方言词汇当作陕北的独特语言来处理,对《平凡的世界》第一卷的阐释可以说明这个问题。

HE Zhi - li＇ s improper comments on LU Yao in his book The Son of the Loess impair LU Yao＇ s image in different respects. He Zhl - li makes mistakes in the problems of religion and language. His conflicting comments on religion result from his confusion of Western religion and Chinese religion. As far as language is concerned, HE Zh＇i - ii mistakes dialects of the central Shaanxi plain for those of north Shaanxi which is revealed in his comment on the first vohame of The Ordinary World, one of LU Yao＇s representative literary works.
