美国开国元勋、著名民主主义思想家杰佛逊的言论、出版与新闻思想,包括人民权利最主要的是言论自由,要永远反对一切对人类心灵实行暴虐专制统治;社会要真正实行出版自由的政策;报纸极为重要,应允许报纸批评政府,哪怕是上面出现政敌的没有根据的言论等。杰佛逊上述思想形成的主客观原因主要是,受母国资产阶级大革命时期思想家弥尔顿等人出版自由思想的影响;受北美殖民地时期自由的宪政辩论的社会现实的启迪及影响;与他的不喜欢强权政府与不擅权不恋位有关。

Of all the remarks, and press ideas including human right of the famous democratic thinker of America, Jefferson, the most important is the freedom of speech. If we want to fight against all the autocratic rules that ruin the souls of human beings, the policy of free press should be carried out, newspapers should be allowed to criticize the government. The formation of the above thoughts of Jefferson had its subjective and objective causes. He had been influenced by the ideas of the free press of the thinker Milton in the period of Capitalist Revolution, and enlightened by social reality of the free debate about constitutionalism in the period of colony in North America. He hated power government ; he did not monopolize power and he was not reluctant to leave his position in the government.
