摘要 加尔文主义和超验主义所宣扬的思想是具有很大差异性、甚至是截然相悖的。美国著名的社会风尚小说家华顿夫人曾经一度深受这两种思想的共同影响,二者的冲突和碰撞所产生的效果体现在她两部中篇小说的主人公的塑造之中。《伊坦.弗洛美》中的伊坦和《夏季》中的查莉蒂的性格中都存在的矛盾性和双重性,以及他们两个人之间的相似性都是与加尔文主义和超验主义的共同作用分不开的。 The spirits reflected in Calvinism and Transcendentalism are different from and even opposite to each other, but the famous American novelist of manners Edith Wharton used to be influenced by these two spirits unanimously. The collision of these two thoughts shows itself in the character portraits of her two novellas Ethan Frome and Summer.
