“华人”是一种新意义的视野,“华人”包含的漂泊性、混杂性、开放性、多元性等都使它既最广泛地承受着种种传统的危机,又极其敏锐地感受到传统发展的各种机遇,从而在中华文化民族性、世界性的根本之处包孕着挑战性的课题。海外华人文化作为中国文化在不同境遇中的应变形态,打破了我们以往对中华文化传统命运的狭窄视野,呈现出传统在种种痛苦的现代“分娩”中的各种生命形态,以其种种“异质”表明着它同中华文化传统内在的深层的联系,以其根源于中华文化传统而又自立独立的形态表明着中华文化的强大衍生力。而海外华人文学对华人文化的命运是最敏感的,它始终立足于“本源性”和“世界性”的基本课题,记录着海外华人的漂泊命运和精神归宿,从而拓展了我们考察中华文化的现代命运的视角和空间。

The appellation -- ＂oversea Chinese＂ is a kind of visual field with new meantng. It takes on some traits, such as wandering, perplexity, opening, many entities, and etc. It most diffusely bears various traditional crisises and sharply experiences various opportunities of tradition developing. Then, it takes on defiant tasks of Chinese culture. Oversea Chinese culture is a form that Chinese culture is in different circumstances. Oversea Chinese culture has broken our narrow visual field to the traditional destiny of Chinese culture, presented various life appearances that tradition endured painful childbirth in modern society . Its various differences show deep contact with Chinese cultural tradition. Though it springs from Chinese cultural tradition , it is indepent. This form expresses Chinese cultural tradition strong multiply. But oversea Chinese literature is the most impressionable to Chinese cultural destiny. It is all the time estab- lished in the basic topic of ＂origin＂ and ＂world＂, recording the wandering life and spirit end-result of oversea Chinese people, thus it expands our visual angle and space that we investigate the modern destiny of Chinese culture
