Mass appearance is usually accompanied by mass disappearance, which may be found near many interperiod boundaries or other boundaries of the Phanerozoic where catastrophic events happened. It is considered that catastrophic events on the earth are also a major cause for mass appearance, as is the case with mass disappearance which is mostly caused by catastrophic events. During the catastrophism, the surface of the earth may be divided into the non-catastrophic region, marginal catastrophic region and central catastrophic region. The non-catastrophic region is mainly characterized by background disappearance and appearance of organisms and the central catastrophic region by mass disappearance, particularly mass extinction: whereas the marginal catastrophic region is characterized by both mass disappearance and mass appearance and in particular it is an active region of organic origin and evolution.
