诞生于“五四”新文化运动整体氛围中的“五四”自剖文学,是指以郁达夫、王以仁为代表的一类小说家的文学创作,这类作品常常近乎本真地描写自己的人生经历与心理历程。同时也涵盖了鲁迅、徐志摩等人的部分创作为代表的一类作品。这类作品袒露自己的心灵,自责道德瑕疵,但却没有任何不端方的成分。这两类作品共同构成了“五四”自剖文学的基本形态。其艺术特征是体现在唯真与唯情的表现原则,感伤与颓废的情感基调,沉痛与凄楚的悲剧氛围和自责与愤世的批判品格四个方面。

＂May Fourth＂ self-analytical literature, created in the overall atmosphere of ＂May Fourth＂ New Culture Movement, refers to the literary creation of a group of novelists with Yu Dafu and Wang Yiren as their representatives. Their works tend to exactly depict their own life experiences and psychological journey. ＂May Fourth＂ self-analytical literature also includes the kind of works with a part of Lu Xun＇s and Xu Zhimo＇s works as representatives, which expose the novelists＇ own psychology and blame their own moral flaws, but without any improper ingredients. These two kinds of works together constitute the basic pattern of ＂May Fourth＂ self-analytical literature, the artistic features of which include real and emotional principle of expression, sentimental and decadent emotional keynote, bitter tragic atmosphere, and selfcriticizing and cynical critical character.
