In A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O＇Neill, the hero and heroine are representatives of the lost moderns in the early twentieth century. At the beginning of this play, they lead an absurd life, and under the protection of pipe dream and alcohol, they dare not face truth. After painful struggle, they manage to confront their absurd life. and finally get redemption and peace in soul. So according to O＇Neill in this play, confronting absurd life, seeking for sympathy and understanding between people is the way to transcend the absurdity of life.
