Macao, a former Portugal colony on the southeastern coast of China, is a unique place with a multicultural heritage, state of the art tourist facilities and a full calendar of festivals, sports competitions and special events all year around. Off the southern coast of China, 70 km from Hong Kong, the island territory of Macao is emerging rapidly as a world travel destination, regarded as the Asian Las Vegas. Macao is the oldest European settlement in China, serving for 400 years as a gateway for cultural exchange between East and West. This fascinating territory was handed back to China in 1999 by the Portuguese government.
