Today, a lot of rescarcheres consider the lesson named ＂Tuhua＂ to be the origin of artistic education in the schools in China. However, that is not the fact. Specific lesson has specific connotation and function in the specific educational system, it should not be treated as artistic education only. The precise understanding of the lesson helps to understand the relevant historical materials in late Qing Dynasty, which is significant to the historical researh of pre - modem art in China.
