As a mode of literary writing, postmodernism has miscellaneous features. Among these features, the erosion of the boundaries between highbrow and popular fictions is generally regarded as the most remarkable one. Since science fiction appeals to such a requirement of postmodernist poetics, it attracts more attention in the postmodernist era. With the writer' s application of some postmodernist techniques, traditional science fiction has turned into a new literary paradigm-- postmodernist science fiction. Oryx and Crake, written by the internationally-acclaimed Canadian writer Margaret Atwood, is just a good example. The author combines the traditional motif with postmodernist techniques (such as parody, the uncertainty of time, irony, etc. ), and thus indicates a new trend of science fiction in the 21st century.
