On Lu Yao's dilemma in his spiritual world: a reading of the end of the Ordinary World

结尾是最能考验一个长篇小说作家思想和艺术功力的关键环节,极重视结尾的路遥却为《平凡的世界》写出了一个不合情理的结尾。这不是因为作家技巧的贫弱,它显示了路遥人生观、世界观中由来已久的理想主义与现实主义的深刻矛盾。正是这深刻矛盾导致了《平凡的世界》两个主人公两条人生道路的“双构性”结构以及它的矛盾重重的结尾。

The end is a key part in a full-length novel which shows the author＇ s thought and artistic power. But Lu Yao, who pays great attention to the end gives an unreasonable end in his novel the Ordinary World. This is not because of the author＇s poor skills, but of the deep contradiction between his idealism and realism in his life and world outlook. It＇s the source of the novel＇s “double-structure” which has two heroes and two ways of life and a dilemma end.
