Causes of Mistranslation in Literary Translation

由于译者与读者之间存在着差异,译文往往与原文凿枘。以霍克思英译本《红楼梦》为例进行分析,可以得知文化性误译、阐释性误译、创造性误译、关照性误译等四个方面是文学翻译中误译的主要肇因。

Literary translation is one of the most important ways to promote cultural exchanges between different nations. The versions, however, are not always consistent with the originals for the great differences between the author and the translator. Based on the examples from The Story of the Stone translated by Hawkes, the paper analyzed the causes of the four kinds of mistranslations in literary translation through cultural, hermeneutieal, creative, and preferential angles respectively.
