The history and operation principle of a fiber-optic gyroscope (FOG) is reviewed. The technology trends and eommereialization of FOG are all introduced. It can be predicated that with the development of technology of micro-electronics, photo-electronics and signal processing, fiber-optic gyroscope will play a more and more important role in the field of inertial measurement in the future.
