初识苏晋云，就得知他开了几家连锁艺术廊，做工艺旅游产品的销售，自然把他当成了商人。但和他接触后，才知非也，苏晋云说：“我是一个文化人，做生意是被迫的。因为我要养活自己，让儿子接受比较好的教育。我想尽量做个灵魂干净一点的文化人。如果我要靠坑人的手段做生意，会比很多人做得更象，到现在也早就成了富翁，但这样有违我的本意。我不愿意做老板，我更愿意做一个从事艺术品创作的工作者”。乍一听，这个苏氏的传人还真是象他的祖先，是一个颇有风骨和正气的文化人。但真正了解到这一点，还是在走近苏晋云之后，特别是了解到他的阅历和创作思想之后。
