The paper introduces main South China sizhu troupes in the city of Shanghai from early 20^th century to 1949, including their stage performance, radio broadcasting, recording and publication. Taking the influence of city culture on sizhu modem transformation as starting point, the paper retrospects to the development and evolution of South China Sizhu in Shanghai from early 20^th century to 1949.
