A Good Man is Hard to Find and O’Conner’s Religious Narrative Style

著名的美国小说家弗兰纳里·奥康纳以她的宗教情节及独特的南方视角在其短篇小说《好人难寻》中精心设计了一条经过宗教着色的旅行路线。她在宗教文本和叙事文本间构建了人的物欲与精神间一座通桥,其中蕴涵了一个拯救灵魂的寓言故事,表达其对信仰沦丧和普遍价值危机的一种强烈深沉的痛苦与思索;并以其宗教情结在叙事中表现出某种艺术技巧上回归与创新。

The famous American author, Flannery O＇ Connor expressed her Catholic complex in her well-known short story, A Good Man is Hard to Find, in which she has created a religious travelling route. In my thesis, I try to specilize in the route＇s three-fold function in the text organization. It firstly made an effective bridge between the substantial and spiritual desires. Then, as a allegorical story, the author claimed her profound sorrow for the universal loss of the religious belief by exploring the indifferent relationships of the modern people. Besides, her anthorial srtategy was to shock , for her fiction was intended as a rebuke to rationalistic, materialistic and humanistic thought leading to unpredictable evil results for the society.
