Aestheticism,the Beauty of the Soul——Wilde′s Pursuit of Aestheticism and His The Picture of Dorian Gray

19世纪末在欧洲出现的唯美主义思潮是最直接提倡“为艺术而艺术”的文艺思潮。唯美主义者主张“艺术具有独立的生命”,他们尤其注重文学艺术的形式美,着力探索文学形式,探究文学与音乐、绘画之间的关系,以增强文学作品的表现力。奥斯卡.王尔德是唯美主义的最积极鼓吹者,也是唯美主义文学的身体力行者。长篇小说《道连.格雷的画像》以奇特的构思、机智的语言和巧妙的象征体现了王尔德的唯美主义追求。尽管王尔德试图使艺术摆脱道德的束缚,却也在不经意中表达了弃恶从善的忠告,唯美,尤其美在心灵。

The trend of thought in aestheticism which appeared at the end of the 19^th century was the trend of thought that advocated the idea ＂art for art＇s sake＂. Aesthetes held the thought that art had its independent lil＇e. They paid special attention to the beauty of the forms of literature and art, exerted themselves to explore styles of literature and probe into the relation between literature and music and drawing so as to develop the expressive force of literary woks. Oscer Wilde was the most active advocator and also the earnest practitioner of aestheticism. His novel The Picture of Dorian Gray reflects Wilde＇s pursuit of aestheticism with the peculiar plot, quick-witted language, ingenious symbolization. Although Wilde tride to free literature and art from the moral fetter, by accident he expressed the advice of giving up evil and returning to good, which means aestheticism, the beruty of the soul.
