Shadow play, dubbed as “living fossil of Chinese arts”, dates back to the Spring and Autumn Period (771-475 BC), which has been evidenced by the carved leather silhouette unearthed in 1966 from No. 1 tomb of Chu in Wangshan Hill, Jiangling, central Hubei Province.
