继高更之后,马蒂斯也踏上了位于南太平洋上的塔希提小岛。从某种程度上讲,这一选择是为了寻求一种故人的足迹,也可能是出于疑惑或敬意。但更主要的因素在于突破自身艺术创作的局限。本文简要回顾两位美术大师相似的艺术历程,以探询塔希提对于二者的不同意义。

Following Gauguin, Matisse also embark on a journey to Tahiti, an island in the South Pacific Ocean. To a certain extent, his choice is not to seek for the footprints of the forerunner, but out of some doubts or respects. But the most important factor lies with both breaking through the personal limit in art creation. The thesis briefly reviews the similar experiences of the both artists in order to discuss the difference in meaning of the island to them.
