Objective To investigate the correlation between pupil sizes and night glare after bilateral laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia. Methods 240 patients (480 eyes) were divided into 2 groups:group Ⅰ (low and moderate myopia) - 1.00D - -6.00D, group Ⅱ(high myopia) -6.25D- - 12.50D. Pupil sizes during seotopie conditions were measured before surgery using TOPCON Auto Kerato-Refraetometer KR-8100,then applying the mean outcomes of the three examinations,we carry out analyzing. Pre-and postoperative refraction and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were registered. At the 3-month follow-up visit, the patient completed a questionnaire regarding night glare postoperatively. Results The mean bilateral BCVA was not changed by the operations ( P 〉 0.05 ). The seotopie pupil sizes in low, moderate myopia group was 6.24±0.72 mm;and that in high myopia group was 7.33 ± 0.41 mm. We found the significant difference in the seotopie pupil sizes between the myopes of degrees ( P 〈 0.01). Large seotopie pupil size preoperatively had a close relation with the occurrence of night glare postoperatively ( P 〈 0.01 ). We also found a significant correlation between gender (males) and the occurrence of night glare postoperatively ( P 〈 0. 05 ). Conclusions Large pupil sizemeasured preoperatively is correlated with post-LASIK night glare during seotopie conditions. We recommend preoperative evaluation of pupil sizes in all patients prior to LASIK surgery.
