Shandong’s physical education becomes better and better nowadays. In Asian Games of 2002, there were 24 people from Shandong winning golden medals in 20 games among which six broke the world records. That is the best result of Shandong in Asian Games. In Athens Olympic Games of 2004, the athletes from Shandong won four gold medals, three silver medals and broke five world records, which is a great breakthrough in history. In the 10th National Games of 2005, Shandong got 42 gold medals and 2102.2 scores, which rank third and fourth respectivley nationwide. The number of gold medals and general score reach the peak of result of Shandong in National Games, which enable Shandong to be one of the members of first group of sports in China. Meanwhile, Shandong is to the forefront of national fitness and industries of physical education. Under this background, Shandong, which is the second province after Jiangsu via application succeeds to be the host of the 11th National Games. The importance of National Games is obvious while the endeavor of Shandong government to develop the relatively poor tertiary industry in economic system is apparent. Espe- cially in the day of the successful Shandong International Culture Industry Fair, the importance of the 11th National Games for Shandong is manifest.
