Throughout the history of the 20^th century, one of the main development features of magazines is the flow of specialization, and the demand for the subdivision of readers correspondingly. The flow began first in the early 20^th century, and more and more specialized magazines which were aimed at specific readers appeared when it came to the 1960s and 1970s. Since the 1970s and 1980s, specific colonies have become the goals of the magazines as a kind of specific publication, and the new meaning of ' specialized magazines' has been defined as the times have changed. This article takes New Yorker, one of the first successes of American "modern specialized magazines" as an example and discusses the relationship between specialized magazines and the pulse of cities in some important aspects, together with the comparison of the past and contemporary.
