“避讳”是我国古代特有的历史现象。当不知一个时代刻本的具体刻印时间时,当难辨同一种文本的不同时代版本时,当各家版本鉴定存有争议时,当一种刻本原本不存,传注本又较多时,若作推断,则往往依据避讳字。例如以避讳字有助于鉴定《近思录》的不同版本。

It is important and the basis to make presumption when people wonder the specific marking time of the block-printed edition in some era, when people have difficulty in distinguishing the different editions of the text, when different editions have controversial identification, and when a block-printed edition of the original version did not exist, while there are many translating and noting editions.
