Originated in the medieval European romance, the English adventure fiction became influential in the hands of Daniel Defoe and Walter Scott and developed into an important popular literary genre in the Victorian age. It is often characteristic of the combination of realism and romanticism, similar pattern of plot with didactic and colonial colour.
