Causes for Confucian Classics-dominated Private School in Han Dynasty

汉武帝“罢黜百家,独尊儒术”,经学成为显学,读经习经蔚然成风,官办学校亦以儒家经学为主要教学内容。但由于官学能力的有限和日渐衰废,私学中长期以来教授儒学的传统以及通经入仕的利禄诱惑,使私学成为普及和推广经学的主要承担者,由此也促进了私学的繁荣发展。

In Han Dynasty, Confucian Classics studies dominated government-sponsored schools due to Emperor Hanwu＇s order. But government-sponsored schools, in lack of capacity and financial suppot, gradually took a declining road. Private Schools became the main education body for students intending to get fame and money through imperial examination, and it was no wonder that Confucian Classics were main courses of Private School.
