Based on practical experience in editing and proof-reading English abstracts of medical papers, the author has summed up the problem we should pay attention to and the method and strategy we should adopt in translating and writing abstracts of medical papers. The article has focused on the discussion of the form of the abstract ; the expression of titles ; the usage of tense and voice ; the translation of long and difficult sentences. It is of some instructive value towards standardization of English abstracts of medical papers.
