Some thoughts on the research orientation of studies and theoretical construction in teaching Chinese as a foreign language in the new century

摘要 本文首先提出了二十一世纪汉语作为外语教育的总目标,然后在总结过去的研究成果和经验的基础上,讨论了为实现教育总目标,汉语作为外语教学研究在本世纪所面临的重要研究课题,其中包括对学习主体和课程建设的研究、语言习得的研究、计算机技术在教学和研究中的应用等。在此基础上,作者提出了如何完善和发展对外汉语教学的学术研究构想。 In synthesizing CFL (Chinese as a foreign language) research conducted over the recent decades the author argues the importance of formulating an array of purposeful and prioritized research activities with reference to the identified goals of the field. Among the prioritized research areas are those related to field building, language acquisition, and incorporation of technology into our research efforts. The discussions end with a proposal for the development of qualified CFL researchers and for the establishment of an international center for CFL studies, a center that would promote CFL studies and coordinate international efforts in carrying out major field-wide comprehensive studies that would generate theory and knowledge for the accomplishment of our missions.
