Thanks to the inaccessibility of the western part of China, Chang Yao managed to live through the spiritual crisis in the mid-1980s. However, in the more extensive and broader subsequent crisis in the 1990s, he was caught in a much more profound solicitude and was shocked by the determinism of human existence, thus having felt the y rise within him.
