The Multiple Roles of the Poetry Translator

诗歌译者的角色可以是多重的:从操作上讲,诗歌译者既是模仿者,又是创造者;从心理上讲,诗歌译者既是原作者的仆人,又是译作的主人;从素质上讲,诗歌译者既是学者又是诗人。当相互矛盾对立的角色之间达到相互融洽、和谐统一时,诗歌翻译就会达到理想的境界。

This article discusses the multiple roles of poetry translators from three aspects. The author believes that the poetry translator is both imitator and creator in operation, both servant of the original author and master of the target text in psychology, both scholar and poet in quality. When the opposite roles in each aspect unite and live harmoniously together, the poetry translation will come to an ideal situation.
