On the Private-operated Education in Modern Hunan

近代湖南的私立教育起步于戊戌变法时期,发展于清末新政时期,发达于民国时期。这种教育文化现象对中国近代历史的发展产生了深远影响,其关键是私立教育为近代湖南社会培养了一大批各类人才。由于独特的地域和历史文化的综合作用,近代湖南的私立教育在发展过程中展现出鲜明的特色,主要包括:在经济不太发达的内陆省份却私立教育发达并呈现多元化,具有超前性;私立教育尤得益于一大批热心教育、有过留学经历的创业者投身与参与其中;私立教育的发展具有比较强的连续性;私立学校开设的课程其内容强调实学,且风格各具。

After 1895 Sino-Japan War, Hunan＇s culture was rich and varied as rosy clouds rising slowly and many men of ability grew up, but Hunan was not important at all in ancient society to the whole country. The private-operated education in modern Hunan started in the 1898 Reform period, and was being developed in the Late-Qing Dynasty New Deal period and advanced in the Republic of China period. This educational and cultural phenomenon made great untri-bution to the development of Chinese modern history, which was mainly embodied by it that the Hunan＇s education profited from the private power and cultivated various men of ability. Because of the function of the particular region and historical culture, brilliant characteristics emerged in the developing process. These characteristics include many aspects as follows. Hunan＇s private-operated education developed in underdeveloped inland province, taking on diversification and bearing forward looking. A lot of people who loved education work very much and who once studied abroad threw themselves into the private-operated education. Hunan＇s private-operated education possessed a strong continuity. The courses established by the private-operated schools emphasized real learning and had full styles.
