摘要
尤金·奥尼尔从古希腊神话传说中汲取悲剧因素,并把它移植到现代环境中,对现代西方文明所造成的人类精神的异化,以及新大陆清教文化对人性的摧残进行了彻底的批判。本文从原型批评的角度解读《悲悼》,指出该剧之所以有经久不衰的生命力,主要是因为它蕴涵了各种原型意象:悲剧主题的复仇原型,悲剧情节的乱伦原型,悲剧人物的人格原型和悲剧社会的道德原型。
Eugene O'Neill absorbs dements from Greek mythologies and western legends and transplants it into the modem settings of his trilogy Mourning Becomes Electra. He severely criticizes the evil forces of modern western civilization and Puritanism in America for they cause the alienation of human mind and suppression of human nature. This essay gives a prototypical reading of the drama and points out that the play' s forceful tragic sprit lies in its various prototypes -- nemesis prototype, incestuous prototype, personality prototype and moral prototype.
