Shamanism originated in Northeast Clfina and had a great influence on ancient Japanese culture. This is reflected in the ancient Japanese ballads recorded in koziki and nihonsyoki. As products of social life of ancient Japanese, these ancient ballads reflected the popularity of Shamanism in ancient Japan. It is therefore unavoidable that ballads emerging in that period, such as love songs, elegies, greeting songs, toast songs, benediction songs and yuefu ballads all bore features of Shamanistic culture. This also proves that ancient Japanese culture is greatly influenced by Chinese culture.
