Harbin is city with distinctive characteristics. By adhering to the principle of city regeneration, urban design formed in this city has created a special academic mode in recent years, whose features are integration of compilation and research, support from the practice and multi-level evaluation. The paper gives a summarization and prospect on urban design in terms of history, present and future, wishing to play a catalyst role for the further application of this discipline in Harbin.
