A Research of the British Women's Role in Family Economy in the Nineteenth Century

工业化、现代化是否强化了英国妇女的经济从属性,这是难解而颇具争议的问题。19世纪工业化现代化中,英国妇女对家庭经济的作用在不同阶层、不同地区、不同时期存在明显的差异。从总体上看,虽然工业化没有完全改变妇女在经济上的从属地位,但由于家庭生产的破坏、就业机会增加等诸多因素,中下层妇女的经济自立能力和对家庭经济的贡献都有所增强,并对妇女的进一步解放产生积极的影响。

It is a difficult and disputable question about whether English women are more subordinate to economy than before through industrialization and modernization. In this paper it is pointed out that English women＇s effect on family economy had distinct differences in rank, trade and time during the industrialization and modernization. On the whole women＇s position in economy hadn＇t been changed, but the women in the middle and lower ranks were more independent and played a more important role in their families, which promoted women＇s movement for further liberation.
