Recent theories on the mechanism of melanogenesis and the various approaches of depigmentation were reviewed. Biosynthetic pathway of melanin and the role of micro organs in melanocytes were shown. As a general approach of depigmentation, typical tyros inase inhibitors and their ability against melanin synthesis were introduced. Further, current theories on melanogenesis stimulating factors such as endothelins and the new approaches on depigmentation were summarized.
