The Linguistic Functions and Layers of Meanings of English and Chinese Poems——A Case Study of Chinese and English Poems from the Perspective of Functional Linguistics

英汉诗歌具有意义的多层次性,即明示义、引伸义和象征义。根据功能语言学理论,语言具有概念功能、人际功能和语篇功能。英汉诗歌不同层次的意义与语言的三大功能密切相关,是通过这些功能来实现的,对英汉诗歌进行语言功能分析,能从不同的角度充分地揭示诗歌语篇的多层次意义、不同意义的表现方式以及英汉诗歌语篇在这些方面的异同。

Chinese and English poems have different layers of meanings： literal, extended and meaning. According to functional linguistics, language has three meta -functions： ideational, interpersonal and textual. This paper believes that the different layers of meanings are closely related with and realized by the three functions. Through analyzing the three functions of the Chinese and English poems, we can see clearly what meanings they convey, how the different meanings are realized, what the Chinese and English poems share and how they differ in these aspects.
