Through a brief retrospection of the circumstances of the 1920s, the paper sets to re-examine the German Weissenhofsiedlung held in 1927 and thus presents the whole process and its multiplicity from the perspectives of the controversial overalllayout, the designs of the main individual buildings and the deviations of the ultimate outcome from the presupposed aims and disciplines With this presentation, the paper focuses on the critical role of exhibition in the modern architecture in its early days and thus brings to light the significance and core status of the public housing in a society of radical changes The paper at last displays the different views toward the modern architecture and the different rotes of architects in China as compared to that in the West.
